A North Bay man has started a petition to save the Dionne Quintuplets’ home.
Jeff Fournier has collected 1800 signatures on a petition calling for the cabin to be designated a heritage building and re-opened as a museum.
“The historical and cultural significance is not only to North Bay, but to the province of Ontario, all of Canada and even the world,” Fournier said.
Fournier brought his appeal to North Bay city council last night, where it didn’t meet with the same enthusiasm.
North Bay city councillor Mark King warned his colleagues to not comment on the petition, saying the city has put out a formal call for expressions of interest and needs to let that process play out.

“We will be exploring all options, we’ll be reviewing them and I’ll tell you, without doubt, we will do the right thing here,” King said.
The two surviving Dionne quintuplets have both said they’d like to see the home where they were born in 1934 preserved.
